Bagan: This city is the historic city on the banks of the mighty Irrawady River and is the main tourist attraction in Myanmar as it is one of the richest archaeological sites in Asia. At its height, in the early 11th century, Bagan was the world centre of Theravada Buddhism, with more than 13,000 pagodas covering the plains.
Mandalay: Before the British moved capital to Rangoon, Mandalay was the erstwhile capital, and is the second largest city in the country.
